No shortage of community service for Outstanding Young Leader

Follow Crystal Doering for a day and you might find yourself worn out.

Doering, a Sibley East Senior, was named the Gaylord Chamber of Commerce’s Outstanding Young Leader. She was honored Saturday during the Chamber’s annual banquet at the Gaylord Legion Club.

Providing outstanding community service for kids and adults appears to be a passion for Doering. From teaching swimming lessons to preparing care packages for soldiers in Iraq, Doering’s contributions to the citizens of Gaylord have been numerous.

Doering is an active volunteer for the Kids Against Hunger Campaign. She has also donated her time at the Catholic Work Camp and is a regular blood donor.

As First Princess of the Gaylord Royalty, Doering is also an active promoter of the City. According to her nomination letter, Doering represents Gaylord in fine fashion while completing her duties as a Princess.

Doering is also an active student at Sibley East High School. She is a member of the yearbook staff and the Business Club, and a cheerleader for the Sibley East basketball teams. Doering appears to be a favorite among classmates as well. She was a nominee for the Sweetheart and Hunk awards and was also part of Sibley East’s homecoming royalty.

It hasn’t been all work and no play for Doering who was a standout tennis player for the Lady Wolverines. She was captain during her senior season and she captured the following individual awards - Most Improved, Most Valuable and Most Spirited. Doering also received honorable mention honors from the Minnesota River Conference.

Doering is the daughter of Scott and Lori Doering of rural Gaylord. Her future plans include attending college. She is considering a career in nursing.
