Shaky finish slows Sibley East at Mayer
December 27th, 2007A shaky finished proved costly for Sibley East’s boy cagers Thursday as they fell to host Mayer Lutheran 60-45 in Minnesota River Conference (MRC) action.
Todd Warzecha’s Wolverines finished the first half on a 12-1 run. That rally would knot the game at 27-27.
But, Sibley East couldn’t keep pace with Mayer Lutheran in the second half. The Wolverines managed but four points over the final eight minutes of action.
“This was our best team effort so far this season,” Warzecha said. “A great effort by everyone enabled us to finish strong in the first half. The guys also gave great effort in the second half but our shots just didn’t fall.”
Sibley East shot 42% from the field in the first half and 33% in the second half. The Wolverines were outrebounded 27-16 in the contest.
Michael Schultz led Sibley East in the setback with 15 points. Justin Rettmann and Tyler Agre contributed eight and seven rebounds respectively for the Wolverines while Sean Dietz charted four assists and three steals.
