Lady Wolverines start slow, drop pair

Struggles at the start slowed Sibley East’s girls’ basketball team last week. The Lady Wolverines fell to Norwood Young America and Belle Plaine in Minnesota River Conference (MRC) action.

Sibley East, 1-7 overall and 1-4 in the MRC, will play in the holiday tournament at Redwood Falls this Friday and Saturday (see article below). The Lady Wolverines will return to conference action when they play at Holy Family on Thursday, January 3rd.

S.E. 38 Norwood YA 55

Al Ihrke’s Sibley East squad couldn’t overcome early offensive woes last Tuesday and fell to Norwood Young America 55-38 at Arlington.

The Wolverines scored but five field goals in the opening half and trailed at the break 29-16. Sibley East picked up the pace offensively in the second half but couldn’t dent NYA’s double digit lead.

Renae Rose led Sibley East in the loss with eight points while Lindsay Thomes and Marie Rose netted seven and six points respectively.

Marie Rose led all Wolverines with seven rebounds while Brittany Trocke chased down five caroms.

S.E. 32 Belle Plaine 54

It was another shaky first half for the Lady Wolverines on Thursday. They were outscored 29-12 in the opening stanza and would fall to Belle Plaine 54-32 in conference play at Arlington.

Lindsay Thomes and Renae Rose highlighted action for Sibley East with 12 and nine points respectively.

Marie Rose led all Wolverines with six rebounds. Ashley Martens contributed three rebounds, three steals and two assists for Sibley East.
