Three tennis players honored by conference
November 1st, 2007Three members of Sibley East’s tennis team were recently honored by the Minnesota River Conference (MRC).
Kayla Trocke, a sophomore for the Lady Wolverines, was named to the all-conference team. Sibley East seniors Crystal Doering and Alisha Schuneman received honorable mention.
TROCKE
Playing #1 singles for the Wolverines this season, Trocke posted an overall record of 11-12. She was three of her eight conference matches.
This is the second consecutive season Trocke has received all-conference honors. She was named to the squad last season after playing for Sibley East’s top doubles team.
According to Sibley East head coach Chad Bachman, Trocke was one of the team’s most improved players this season.
“Kayla has made great strides since last year,” Bachman said. “I have been real happy with her progress. She has also been a good leader for the squad.”
Trocke is the daughter of Steve and Mary Trocke of Arlington.
DOERING
Doering played #1 doubles for Sibley East this season, posting an 8-14 overall record and a 3-5 mark in conference action.
Doering has been a member of Sibley East’s varsity tennis team since her sophomore season. She played #2 doubles for the Lady Wolverines in 2006.
“Crystal was one of the most improved players on our team this season,” coach Bachman said. “I was very happy with her leadership. She always took the court with a positive attitude.”
SCHUNEMAN
Alisha Schuneman was Doering’s partner at #1 doubles for Sibley East this season. She finished the season with a 6-16 overall record and a 3-5 mark in conference play.
Schuneman has been a member of the Sibley East varsity squad for the past four seasons.
“Alisha worked really hard at improving her game,” coach Bachman said. “She will be missed next season.”
Coaches in the conference named Holy Family’s Maddie Thiesse the league’s “Most Valuable Player.”
Playing #1 singles, Thiesse finished the conference season undefeated. She advanced to the Section 4A semifinals and finished the season with an 11-5 record. Thiesse’s season highlights included winning six matches 6-0, 6-0.
Holy Family coach Josh Dwyer was named “Coach of the Year” in the MRC. He led the Fire to a conference championship this season.
