Sibley County Choral Concert

The Sibley County Choral Society will present its annual Christmas concert in three communities this weekend.

Entitled “Waiting for the Promise” concerts will be presented at Gaylord’s American Lutheran Church on Friday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m.; at Henderson’s St. Paul’s United Church of Christ on Saturday, December 1, at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 2 at Creekside Community Church in Arlington at 2:00 p.m.

Advance ticket sales are available for $4.50 from any Choral Society member. Tickets at the door are $5.00 for adults and $2.50 for students.

Robyn Woods is the choir director. Cathy Probst will be the accompanist.

Sibley East Holiday Concert

The Sibley East High School Choirs, under the direction of Lenore Strouth, will be presenting their Holiday Concert on Thursday, December 6, at 7 p.m. at the gymnasium in Arlington.

The concert will include performances from the sophomore choir, the senior concert choir, the show choir, as well as solos and ensembles. Many Christmas favorites will be performed as well as music of other styles. The concert promises to be an excellent start to the holiday season.

Admission prices are $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for students.

Christmas Tree Lighting

Help the Gaylord Chamber of Commerce light up a community Christmas tree. The Chamber of Commerce is again sponsoring the Love-Lights-A-Tree program.

For each $5 donation which is given in honor or memory of someone, the Chamber will light a bulb on a community tree at the corner of Third Street and Lincoln Avenue. Proceeds will be used toward a future community wonderland display in the city park and Lakeview Home area.

A public lighting ceremony will be held Friday, Dec. 7 at 5 p.m., followed by refreshments at Oak Terrace Senior Apartments. The public is invited.

The tree is being lit through the Love-Lights-A-Tree program. For a $5 donation, which is given in honor or memory of someone, the Gaylord Chamber of Commerce will light a bulb on the tree.

Love Lights can be purchased through Christmas at ProGrowth Bank, First National Bank Minnesota, Sibley East Junior High School, Gaylord city offices, Oak Terrace Health Care Center, The Hardware Center, Prairie House, American Legion Club, and Casey’s General Store.

Santa Claus comes to Gaylord

Santa Claus will be making a pre-holiday stop in Gaylord on Saturday, Dec. 8. He will be at the Sibley East Elementary cafeteria in Gaylord from 9 a.m. to noon.

The public is invited. Participants are asked to bring a non-perishable item for the Sibley County Food Shelf.

Sibley County 4-H members will be leading games and crafts for children. Children may have their photos taken with Santa for a $1 fee.

A goodie bag will be given to all children.

The event is being sponsored by the Gaylord Area Chamber of Commerce.

In addition, children are invited to have breakfast with Santa from 10 - 11 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations are needed. Call 237-5936 by noon on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Gaylord’s stormwater pond has proven to be a popular refuge for geese

Gaylord’s stormwater pond has proven to be a popular refuge for geese since the waterfowl hunting season began two months ago. The flock of “honkers” appears to grow in numbers everyday. Geese continued to pile into the pond Monday but will likely migrate south when they can no longer keep open water.
