Sibley East students earn high marks on ACT exams
August 30th, 2007Sibley East High School students, overall, had some of the highest scores ever in the ACT college entrance examination this year.
The ACT consists of curriculum-based tests of educational development in English, mathematics, reading and science, designed to measure the skills needed for success in first year college coursework.
Senior High Principal Jim Swanson, in a report to the Board of Education August 20, said that the 66 students who took the test scored the highest scores ever in reading and math.
Sibley East students averaged a 20.7 score in English, just below the state average of 21.8. Swanson reported that this is the second highest score Sibley East students have achieved.
Sibley East’s average mathematics score was 22.8, above the state average of 22.5 The score was slightly lower than Sibley East’s 2205 and 2006 scores, when the average score was 23.2 and 23.6 respectively.
In the reading test, Sibley East students scored the highest ever, 23.1 and scored above the state average of 22.8. The science score of 22.6 was the highest ever for Sibley East students and was slightly above the state average of 22.5
Sibley East’s composite score was 22.4, slightly below the state average of 22.5. The composite score was the second highest ever for Sibley East, according to Swanson.
Minnesota lead the nation with the highest ACT scores, Swanson said.
