Former Islanders play in Over-35 league state baseball tourney

Former Gaylord players Doug Walsh, Randy Walsh and Mike Max were members of the Eden Prairie team which placed fourth in the Minnesota Over-35 League State Baseball Tournament.

Eden Prairie Lion’s Tap opened the state tourney with thrilling comeback wins over Braemar (6-3 in 12 innings) and Belle Plaine (6-5 in 8 innings). Mike Max was 3 for 4 at the plate against Belle Plaine while Doug Walsh went 2 for 4 with an RBI off former Arlington A’s standout Joe Driscoll.

There was no comeback for Eden Prairie in semifinal action as Lion’s Tap fell to Freeport 5-3 Saturday evening at Union Hill. In the third place game Sunday, Eden Prairie lost to Mayer 3-2.

Max finished the tournament 5 for 11 at the plate while Doug Walsh was 4 for 12 with three RBI’s.

Randy Walsh recorded a mound win in state tourney play. He hurled six innings allowing three hits and striking out seven. Walsh did not allow an earned run.

The Hanska Bullheads won the Over-35 League Class AA state championship with a win over Freeport on Sunday. Hanska is powered by the three Steinback brothers including former major leaguer Terry Steinbach.
