Johnson ends employment with City of Gaylord
July 27th, 2007Lonny Johnson is no longer Gaylord’s City Administrator.
City Council members, in a closed meeting Wednesday, accepted a separation of employment agreement filed by Johnson. The agreement was effective immediately.
The decision to leave his City Administrator position caps a roller coaster month. In early July, Johnson announced plans to resign at the end of this year. A week later, he changed his mind and withdrew that resignation.
Job performance issues between Johnson, a few council members, and Mayor Doug Quast appear to be the reason for Johnson’s decision to leave the City of Gaylord.
“It was strictly job performance issues,” Mayor Quast told The Gaylord Hub on Monday.
The separation agreement approved by the City Council releases Johnson from his contract which had been extended until August, 2010.
According to the agreement, Johnson will receive a severance payment in the gross amount of $43,792.50. He will also receive an accrued salary payment and vacation pay. According to City Attorney Doug Nesvig, that amount is estimated to be less than $2,000.
In a special meeting Thursday, council members named Lori Waltz as the interim City Administrator. Waltz has been employed by the City of Gaylord since 1994. She has served as the City’s accountant/clerk for more than ten years.
Mayor Quast reported that the City Council will discuss the search process for a new City Administrator at its August 1st meeting.
Attempts by The Gaylord Hub to reach Johnson for a comment were unsuccessful.
