Home Sweet Home
July 27th, 2007
There were sirens, smiles and a few tears here this week as area soldiers returned home after a 22-month deployment. A total of eleven area soldiers were escorted around town in parades on Saturday and Monday. Above, Chad Muchow, Matt Uecker, and Scott Peterson ride on a fire truck.
Hundreds of people surrounded Gaylord streets Saturday and Monday to welcome home troops returning from a 22-month deployment.
The Gaylord Pool was a popular site for greeting the troops.
New Auburn’s VFW Club donated 300 flags for those saluting the troops during Monday’s parade.
Erik Wallace is welcomed home by Gaylord Mayor Doug Quast. Wallace’s brother Brad, also a soldier, is expected to return Friday. Area soldier Steve Peterson is currently training in Alabama and is expected back in August.
Riding on the fire truck are Mark Newsom, Cody Messner and Mike Brinkman.
Homes and businesses throughout Gaylord were decorated with “Welcome Home” messages. Other soldiers who returned this week include Chad Muchow, Scott Peterson, Matt Uecker, Paul Grimm, Seth Hinz and Tim Solomonson. Area soldiers who served in Iraq will be honored Saturday, August 11th during Eggstravaganza.
