City Administrator withdraws resignation

July 13th, 2007

City Administrator Lonny Johnson, in an e-mail message to Mayor Quast and the City Council, has withdrawn his resignation as city administrator and EDA Executive Director.

Last week Johnson had announced his intention to resign at the July 18 City Council meeting. He has been City Administrator in Gaylord since March of 2001 and is under contract to serve as city administrator here until August 2010.

In an e-mail message Monday night, Johnson wrote that “although it may seem like a rather abrupt change in position, the truth of the matter is I love my job, love the people I work with, and can’t imagine working anywhere else.”

Johnson said that he and his wife Julie have decided that they would like to be a long-term part of Gaylord, to include looking for and/or building a home in Gaylord, and becoming a permanent part of the community. He told the Hub that the latest he and his family would move to Gaylord would be in the spring of 2008. He has been commuting from Savage.

In the note, Johnson agreed that some things at City Hall need to be addressed, including developing a job description, and developing a process by which he will receive employee evaluations by the Council and not have such meetings done behind closed doors. He also felt that there should be a “mutually accepted understanding” of what he can and can’t do as an attorney in his “off” hours as City Administrator.

He also said that his parents live in Le Sueur and that he and his family would like to live near them.
