Dale Breuer returns to City Council post

April 25th, 2007

Dale Breuer went from the audience to his City Council post Wednesday. Council members voted unanimously to appoint Breuer to fill the vacancy left by Sue Jacobson, who resigned last month.

Mayor Doug Quast reported last week that he received “numerous” phone calls from community members supporting Breuer for the position. Other council members echoed Quast’s comment. Carl Wetzel eventually made a motion to appoint Breuer and council members unanimously passed a resolution establishing the appointment.

Breuer, after serving as council member for four years, returns to the City Council after a brief three month absence. His bid for reelection fell short last November. He received 464 votes, 34 shy of what was needed for reelection.

“I am happy to be back,” Breuer told The Gaylord Hub on Monday. “I will continue to try to do the best I can for this community.”

Breuer is filling the vacancy left by Jacobson. She resigned from the City Council in March after serving two years.

According to the City charter, Breuer will fill Jacobson’s position until the next municipal election scheduled for November, 2008.

Breuer’s appointment was met by applause from the audience at Wednesday’s City Council meeting. According to City Administrator Lonny Johnson, no other candidates for the position were submitted to City Hall.
