No staff reductions planned for 2007-08 school year
March 23rd, 2007No reductions or additions in staff are proposed for Sibley East Public Schools for 2007-2008.
At the Board of Education meeting Monday, Superintendent John Langenbrunner reported that Sibley East is projecting its enrollment to decline by 25 students next year – all secondary students. Langenbrunner estimated that this would be a $200,000 loss in revenue to the district next year.
Instead of reducing existing staff, Langenbrunner said that the district is looking at retirements and other budget adjustments to make up the projected loss in revenue.
District-wide, Sibley East proposes to have 98.05 full-time equivalent positions, 53.33 for the elementary and 46.03 for the secondary.
The only adjustment proposed would be the reduction from six sections of Grade 1 to four sections next year, and the increase from four sections of Grade 2 to six sections next year. The reason for the proposal is because of the one large elementary class, this year’s first graders and next year’s second graders, that currently has 105 students.
In other business, the Board of Education:
• Hired Tammy Rechtzigel of Arlington as a secondary Spanish teacher for the 2007-2008 school year. She has 10 years experience teaching Spanish at the Senior High level at Glencoe-Silver Lake High School, and two years of teaching English as a Second Language at the Junior High and Senior High levels.
• Hired Jerry Berg as a seventh grade baseball coach, Kurt Menk as a seventh grade softball coach, and Stephanie Schultz as the ninth grade softball coach.
