Pieces of Gaylord’s richest basketball history continue to be preserved in the trophy case at the Sibley East Junior High. The Gaylord Gaybees were state champions in 1926, defeating Gilbert 13-9 in the lowest scoring championship game in the history of the state tournament. Gaylord advanced to the national tournament that season and won two of three games. Members of the 1926 squad included Bart Corcoran, Henry Hyzer, Roland Krueger, Sidney Krueger, Milo Wallin, Bennie Lichttenegger, Leroy Lindall and Leonard Schram. Sibley East’s Junior High Youth Development Council did some more research on Gaylord High School’s basketball history.
