Five new positions recommended for Public Health

February 22nd, 2007

Sibley County Commissioners, last week, adopted six new classifications of county positions, and kept classifications the same for five positions.

The recommendations were made by Bjorklund Compensation Consulting, who is contracted by the county to review job classifications.

Five of the six new classifications are for the Public Health Department and would likely involve promoting from within the department. The classifications are for the Assistant Public Health Director, Nurse Supervisor - Adult Health Team, Nurse Supervisor - Family Health Team, Nurse Supervisor - School Health Team, and Nurse Supervisor - Case Management.

Roseann Nagel, Human Resources Director, explained that these supervisory positions will be similar in structure to the Human Services Department which has supervisors for each division.

The only “new” position created is for a language interpreter that will be utilized by Human Services and Public Health Departments. This position is being funded through South Country Health Alliance.

Classifications, along with the grade and salary for five positions were kept the same. The positions were for the accountant in the Auditor’s office, Assistant County Auditor, Information Services Director, County Auditor, and County Attorney.

A reclassification request for the assistant county attorney position is pending.

Sibley County’s Personnel Advisory Committee recommended following the recommendations of the consultant.

County Commissioners Bill Pinske and Charlie Woehler supported following the consultant’s recommendations.

“If we are going to have a consultant, we have to go by what he says,” Pinske said.

Woehler said that if the county would not follow the recommendations, “we would be going back to where we were 16 years ago.”

The County Auditor had requested that the Assistant County Auditor’s salary be increased to $20.98/hour, up from $19.19/hour, and that the accountant’s salary be increased to $19.05/hour, up from $15.17/hour.

In other business, the Commissioners authorized the Public Works Department to hire up to three summer staff/interns, not to exceed the department’s budget for summer help.
