Sibley East renews lease for Walsh Field
January 29th, 2007Sibley East’s Board of Education, Monday night, renewed its lease with the City of Gaylord for the use of Walsh Field.
As part of the five-year lease agreement, the school district will pay the city $1,000 annually, the same amount as the prior lease. The amount is due on or before July 23 of each year. The lease covers 2007 - 2011.
School board member Scott Dose told the Board of Education that Green Isle has never approached the school district for compensation for the use of their field. The field is used by the B squad on a regular basis, according to Dose. Dose was asked to inform Superintendent John Langenbrunner whom to contact regarding this issue.
In other business, the school board, by a 5-1 vote with Jodi Hanson opposed, granted an easement relating to the Gaylord Street and Utility Improvement Project.
The city requested a 70 foot wide easement across the school’s existing football practice field in order to serve the swimming pool area with deeper sewer service and new water lines.
As part of the agreement the city would construct the sewer and water mains across the school property and install a sewer and water tee for future hookup by the school if needed.
In addition, the city will:
• Landscape and seed the disturbed area right after construction so the grass would be intact by midsummer of 2008.
• Repair any sprinkling system lines that will be crossed with the utility installation.
• Not start construction on the football field until football practice and games on the field are completed.
• Defer any assessments on this property until the need would arise for the school to build any buildings on this property requiring the need to hook up to the new sewer and water line.
The city indicated that it may be able to assist the school in the extension of the utility lines approximately 300 feet to the south. This could be used for the possible future construction of new bathrooms at the new softball field locations.
Langenbrunner said the city will save $125,000 - $150,000 by routing the utility lines through the school property.
Dose suggested that the school request that the city review the parcel after a year, when the ground has settled.
