Even though they were wrestling shorthanded, five Wolverines tumbled to first place honors Saturday in a ten team Minnehaha Academy Invitational.

Champions for Sibley East included Mark Thoele, Scott Tollefson, Andrew Bates, Jake Zeiher and Brit Keithahn. These Wolverines combined for nine pins, a technical fall and three major decisions.

Bates, currently the #3 ranked 140-pounder in Class A, cruised to top honors with two pins and a technical fall win. Thoele, Tollefson and Zeiher also recorded two pins on the day.

Falling one victory shy of first place honors were Wolverines Derek Hahn, Mason Matz and Kevin Deno. Fourth place finishers for Sibley East included Tyler Pasvogel, Joey Posivio, Jon Volinkaty and Todd Pauly.

Sibley East standout Justin Rose, who is currently ranked #3 in Class A’s 171-pound weight class, did not wrestle Saturday due to illness. Adam Bates, another starter for the Wolverines, sat out with an injury.

The Wolverines finished second in the team standings with 233.5 points. They were three points short of team champion Montgomery-Lonsdale/Le Center.
