Matmen open MRC season with 43-12 win at Le Sueur-Henderson
January 29th, 2007A fast start propelled Sibley East’s grapplers to victory Friday as they opened the Minnesota River Conference (MRC) season with a 43-12 win at Le Sueur-Henderson.
Rod Tollefson’s Wolverines won six of the first seven matches to take a commanding 24-3 lead. Sibley East senior Andrew Bates capped the early rally with a first period pin in the 140-pound bout.
LSH stopped the rally in an exciting 145-pound match. Second ranked Matt Pfarr needed four overtime periods to defeat Sibley East’s Jake Zeiher 4-2.
The Wolverines also lost by decision in the next match but bounced back by winning four of the final five bouts.
Kevin Deno powered Sibley East down the stretch with a first period pin while Justin Rose won by major decision.
