Heritage House residents will have new furniture

November 30th, 2006

Residents of Heritage House will soon have new furniture. Lakeview Home’s Board of Directors, Monday, approved purchasing three recliners, one stationery chair, and two high-backed love seats for the facility that provides care to those who suffer memory loss.

The cost of the new furniture will be $5,400. The furniture that is being replaced is 10 years old, according to Heritage House manager Laura Boelter.

The new furniture will partially be funded by a $3,000 donation Heritage House received more than one year ago from a family of a former resident. “It’s not fair to the family to keep holding onto the money,” Boelter said.

In other business, Lakeview Home’s Board of Directors:

• Increased the rates at Heritage House by 3 1/2% effective Jan. 1, 2007. Boelter said the increase will bring the rates comparable to area facilities. The private room rate will increase from $3,888/month to $4,025/month, while the companion room rate will increase from $3,502/month to $3,625/month.

• Approved the purchase of two adjustable wheelchairs for Lakeview Home. The purchase will primarily be funded by a $2,400 donation from the Lakeview Home Auxiliary. $400 will be paid by Lakeview Home through a donation received for culture change. Occupational therapy and the nursing department will determine which residents will use the new equipment.

• Appointed Lakeview Home’s Director of Nursing, the interim administrator, Human Resource director, and board member Kari Evans to review and update the personnel policy. After a draft policy is developed, it will be reviewed by city administrator Lonny Johnson.

• Learned from interim administrator Mary Nell Zellner that there is no new information at this time on a contract for Meals on Wheels.

• Was informed by Zellner about a plan to recruit registered nursing assistants and licensed staff. Plans are to do a direct mailing to all licensed staff in the area, to have an open house for area nursing programs, offer a recruitment bonus for employees, advertise through the newspapers, working with the high school guidance counselor, and create a mini scholarship program for employees.
