City and County tax hearings next week

Sibley County residents are invited to attend a public hearing of the County Board of Commissioners to express their opinions on the budget and the proposed amount of 2007 property taxes.

The hearing will be held Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Commissioner’s Room of the Courthouse.

The City of Gaylord will hold its hearing Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.

Sibley County is proposing to collect $9,772,017 in property taxes in 2007, a 7.02% increase from the 2006 property taxes of $9,084,667. This reflects a $637,484 increase.

A 5.54% increase is proposed in the county’s budget. The proposed budget for 2007 is $17,450,015, up $915,348 from the $16,534,667 budget in 2006.

Gaylord’s taxes are proposed to increase 6%.
