Wounded pelican rescued on Lake Titloe
November 22nd, 2006
An effort to rescue a wounded pelican on Lake Titloe Tuesday morning proved successful. The rescue team initially tried to capture the bird on the north shore of the lake.

It eventually took a boat and a fishing net to corral the pelican. Pictured above, shortly after the capture, are Jason Magers (right) and Gaylord Police Officer Tom Webster.

Marie Thurn, a volunteer for the University of Minnesota Raptor Center, administered first aid to the pelican which suffered from a wounded left wing. Thurn, of Glencoe, transported the bird to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Minnesota.

If the pelican can be rehabilitated, it will be returned to the wild, according to Thurn. A second pelican was found dead Tuesday near one of Lake Titloe’s islands.
