Astyn Bjorklund named to A-10 All Conference Team
November 22nd, 2006For the fourth time in four seasons, Sibley East graduate Astyn Bjorklund has received post season honors from the Atlantic-10 (A-10) Conference.
Bjorklund, a senior volleyball player for Xavier University, was recently named to the A-10 All-Conference First Team. Her senior teammate Danielle Skrajewski also received first time all-conference honors. Voting for all-conference selections is conducted among coaches in the A-10.
This is the second season Bjorklund has received A-10 First Team All-Conference honors. The middle blocker also received the honor two years ago.
Bjorklund was named to the A-10 All-Conference second team following her junior season. As a freshman, Bjorklund was named to the A-10 Conference All-Rookie Team.
Bjorklund closed out her collegiate volleyball career by recording the second-best hitting percentage (.392) in the conference. She hit a clip of .410 in A-10 contests. Bjorklund was also ranked ninth in the conference in kills per game and sixth in points per game.
Xavier had its season end Saturday with a 3-0 loss to top-seeded University of Dayton in the A-10 championships in Dayton, Ohio.
Bjorklund tallied nine kills in the semifinal contest, six of which came in the opening game. The 5’-11” middle blocker also combined with teammate Jill Quayle to record seven block assists in the setback.
Xavier closes out its season with an overall record of 18-12. The Musketeers were 10-3 in Atlantic-10 Conference play. This marked the third straight season that they have recorded ten or more conference victories.
Bjorklund, a finance major at Xavier, is the daughter of Wayne and Theresa Bjorklund of rural Nicollet.
