The deer season started a bit prematurely for Gaylord businessman Neil Winterfeldt. He had an 8-point buck hanging in his garage five days before the season.
The deer was killed in a fight with another buck which was believed to be a 10-pointer. Two surveyors from Sibley Surveyors Inc. were working near Winterfeldt’s rural Brownton home last Monday when they noticed two deer near the yard. When they approached the deer, the larger buck ran off while the eight-point deer was near death.
Authorities were notified and Winterfeldt was provided a deer tag by the McLeod County Sheriff’s Department.
