There will be no football cheerleaders this season
October 4th, 2006If you’ve been to a Sibley East football game this season, you may have noticed something is missing.
There have been no cheerleaders for the Sibley East football team and that will remain that way for the rest of the season.
Sibley East principal Jim Swanson, at Monday’s school board meeting, said an administrative decision was made to drop football cheerleading for this year.
There was apparently a disagreement between cheerleaders and first year advisor Samantha Whitaker on how much time would be involved in the football cheerleading program.
Of the eight cheerleaders, two never came to the first practice, two quit after two practices, and two opted to go out for a sport instead, Swanson explained.
According to Swanson, the kids that quit either decided to keep their jobs or that it wasn’t worth the time being asked of them.
Whitaker has resigned from her cheerleading duties. Swanson said the school is currently seeking a cheerleading advisor for the basketball season.
