Sibley East boys place 14th in cross country meet
October 4th, 2006Sibley East’s boys’ cross country team opened its season Thursday by finishing 14th in a meet at the Montgomery Golf Club.
Thirty-seven teams and more than 200 runners participated in the 5,000 meter competition.
Leading the charge for Mike Vrklan’s Wolverines was senior captain Eric Thies. He placed seventh with a 17:12 clocking.
Junior Luis Ramirez was the next Sibley East runner to cross the finish line. He placed 51st with a time of 18:47.
Andrew Thies was the only other Wolverine to finish in the top half of the standings in the varsity race. The eighth-grader clocked a time of 19:18, good enough for 71st place.
Sibley East’s Vaughn Tackmann and Joram Boehning finished back-to-back in the race. Tackmann was 126th with a time of 20:17. He was one second faster than freshman Boehning who placed 127th.
Sam Kluver completed the list of varsity runners for the Wolverines. The junior finished in 191st place with a time of 22:40.
Ninth-grader Eric Schultz led Sibley East in Junior Varsity action. He placed 5th in the 5,000 meter race with a time of 19:44.
Other Wolverines competing in the JV race included: Alex Weber (22:06), Josh Storm (22:10), Ben Wieman (22:59) and Guillermo Ramirez (23:05).
Sibley East freshman Noah Tackmann competed in the Junior High competition. He clocked a time of 11:15 in the 2,000 meter race.
