County’s Primary vote split evenly between DFL and GOP
October 4th, 2006Sibley County residents who cast their ballots in the primary election followed the state-wide trends.
On the Republican ticket, Mark Kennedy received the nod as U.S. Senate candidate with 509 votes. John Uldrich received 28 votes and Harold Shudlick 18 votes.
Mark Piepho defeated Matthew (Matt) Kruse as the candidate for State Senator in District 23. Piepho received 190 votes, while Kruse received 74.
County Republicans strongly supported the incumbent Governor and Lieutenant Governor team of Tim Pawlenty and Carol Molnau with 498 votes. Sue Jeffers and Ruth Hendrycks received 67 votes.
Republican votes supported Sharon Anderson as attorney general candidate. Anderson defeated Jeff Johnson 308 to 213.
Two Republican candidates ran unopposed on the primary ballot. they were Michael Barrett for U.S. Representative in District 7 and Mary Kiffmeyer for Secretary of State.
On the Democratic-Farmer-Labor ticket, Amy Klobuchar received overwhelming support for U.S. Senator. Klobuchar garnered 520 votes, while Darryl Stanton received 50.
Incumbent Collin C. Peterson received the nod for U.S. Representative in District 7. He received 428 votes, while Erik Thompson received 110.
Mike Hatch and Judi Dutcher were the top vote-getters for Governor and Lieutenant Governor with 452. They were followed by 87 votes for Becky Lourey and Tim Baylor, and 18 for Ole’ Savior and Dan Fischer.
Lori Swanson was the top DFL attorney general candidate with 213 votes. She was followed by Bill Luther with 163 and Steve Kelley with 162.
Mark Ritchie was the top Secretary of State candidate with 316 votes. He was followed by “Dick” Franson with 191 votes.
Kathy Sheran was unopposed for State Senator in District 23.
On the Independence Party ticket, Robert Fitzgerald was the top vote-getter for U.S. Senator with 21 votes. He was followed by Miles Collins with 10 and Stephen Williams with 9.
The team of Peter Hutchinson and Maureen Reed for Governor and Lieutenant Governor defeated Pam Ellison and Kari Johnson, 29 to 14.
Dale Nathan was the top Independence Party vote-getter for Attorney General with 16 votes. He was followed by Richard “Dick” Bullock with 13, John James with 8, and Jual Carlos Carlson with 3.
Joel Spoonheim was unopposed for Secretary of State.
