Lakeview Homes begins staff reductions

August 9th, 2006

About six full-time equivalent employees will be reduced next month at the campuses of Gaylord Lakeview Homes (Lakeview Home, Oak Terrace, and Heritage House).

Interim administrator Mary Nell Zellner said that employees that will be affected will be notified between Aug. 4 - 10. The reductions will take effect in early September, she said.

The reductions will not affect nurses or nursing assistants - those who provide direct care to the residents, she explained. The reductions will affect what she described as “support staff.”

Nell Zellner was charged by the City to make reductions in order to get the facilities’ financials in line and in order to have more universal workers. The city is considering selling the health care facilities.

A study by Pathways, two months ago, showed that the facilities could save money if staffing, wages, hours and benefit packages were set to industry standards. Staffing was found to be very high in most departments, exceeding the norm for the profession.

Dennis Van Moorlehem, Lakeview’s environmental services director, has resigned effective August 24.
